Riaan is a born and bred Zimbabwean who lives and works in Malawi as Head of Agronomy for Premium Tobacco Malawi Ltd. Although an agronomist by trade, with extensive experience within Southern and Eastern Africa, Riaan has predominantly worked with smallholder growing projects for over 21 years. Riaan is driven by working with and uplifting smallholder growers, supporting them to become self-sufficient. This passion led Riaan to complete an MBA in Leadership and Sustainability. The MBA cemented his skills and knowledge base, through the wide range of research and studies undertaken. The MBA in leadership and sustainability, was chosen through a belief that supporting and implementing sustainable smallholder grower projects is the only way to ensure the viability and livelihoods of the smallholder growers. Riaan has established training, monitoring and traceability systems with the field team and contracted smallholder grower base. This system has created a fully traceable, forward and back analysis along the supply chain. Riaan is responsible for overseeing the companies ESG and supply chain due diligence, as well as securing the required contracted tobacco volumes.
